The lands above the QEW highway are by and large planned communities. Redevelopment essentially began in the 80’s and continues today with massive tracts of land just now commencing development north of Hwy 5 (Dundas Street).
The Town of Oakville has been very diligent in planning these neighbourhoods to ensure that the communities are well served by public gathering places, transit systems and a web of scenic nature trails. Community Centres abound, offering swimming, gymnasiums, fitness centres, ice hockey and more. Sports fields, playgrounds and splash pads are also abundant and well situated within the various family oriented neighbourhoods. North Oakville is also home to a world class indoor soccer stadium, appropriate for a town that has one of the largest soccer associations in North America.
Many of the homes built in the 80’s and even early 90’s are being renewed as homeowners renovate to keep up with current trends. Newer homes in North Oakville boast design features such as open concept rooms and higher ceiling heights, and are generally situated on smaller lots than those built in previous decades. In addition to single family homes, more condominium apartment buildings are being erected to keep up with the demands of the growing population. Plenty of “big box” stores and other large shopping plazas currently exist and continue to be built to service the needs of the populace.
Pride of ownership is evident in all neighbourhoods in North Oakville. Each distinctive neighbourhood has its own look and feel and offers unique advantages to its residents.
Westoak Trails is a newer community of homes, most built in the late 90’s and early 00’s. Typical to newer areas, lot sizes here tend to be smaller than those located south of Upper Middle Road.
Homes here are available in a wide range of price points, many of which are moderate. Though plenty of townhomes, semi’s and detached homes are available for young families and first time buyers, some of the largest, most luxurious homes on ravine lots come with price tags in excess of $1,000,000.
This area is known as a wonderful family community with fantastic walking trails nestled throughout the neighbourhood, as well as plenty of playgrounds and splash pads. It is centrally located within North Oakville, making it close to shopping and access to major highways (407, 403 and QEW).
