It seems like it was just a short while ago, but it has been nearly a year since we Oakvillians celebrated the first ever Oakville Children’s Festival! Who would forget that eventful Sunday on July 27, 2014 when our kids and our families had such a great time at Coronation Park? Good thing that we’ll have another day like that again, at the 2015 Oakville Children’s Festival!
Mark Your Calendars
July 19, 2015 is the day Oakvillians! If you didn’t get the chance to attend last year’s event and have fun with about 15,000 festival-goers who enjoyed all the activities and performances by award-winning artists, then join the 2015 one this Sunday!
This year’s Oakville Children’s Festival will push through, come rain or shine! Your kids (or any kid for that matter) will surely enjoy the line-up of fun interactive cultural activities and live performances. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a kid, those who are kids at heart are welcome as well!
Head on to Coronation Park at Lakeshore Road West this Sunday and prepare for a day-long of fun from 10am to 4pm. There is a full list of what’s in store at this link and to make things even more convenient for you, there would be a free Oakville Transit bus coming from the Halton Regional Centre. Bonus points? It also stops at Bronte GO station. Festival goers are also welcome to refill their water bottles at the water bar.
What To Look Forward To
Lots of performances! There would be main stage performances by Cosima Grunsky, The Backyardigans Musical Playdate, and Gadfly Dance Show. The South Stage will also feature performances such as the Safari Science Reptile Show, a number from Toopy & Binoo’s Frank Meschkuleit, and some amazing magic by the street magician and illusionist Ray Chance. The MOTUS O dance theatre and the Zacada Circus Aerial Display will also have shows in the area (off-stage).
How about food? Well, the kiddos won’t starve in this day-long event! There are lots of food trucks and you can expect to see Kool Jim’s Ice Cream, Southern Smoke Truck Inc, BeaverTails, Luchador Gourmet Streatery, Blue Donkey Streatery, Likos Hawaiian Barbecue, Meatball Shoppe, and The Mighty Cob. That’s a lot of food choices, your picky-eaters won’t be a problem at all!
Tim Hortons and Whole Foods Market Oakville would both have a tent filled with goodies, games, and giveaways. There would also be a giant photo frame where you can have your photos taken, art and buildings workshop, and an Oakville Fire Education Station. If you’ve got a sports enthusiast, the YCMA of Oakville will be providing a skateboard ramp. You will simply have to make sure to bring your own skateboard and helmet so that your kid can join in the fun!
Must Know Notes
Although we love our furry friends, the event organisers encourages everyone to leave their pets at home. All festival events will end by 4pm so if you’re planning on dropping off your kids for them to attend, be sure to be able to pick them up later. The last free shuttle will leave the area at 5pm and since on-street parking is limited (and there is no parking area), you may have to avail of the free shuttle service to the festival. No worries though, it stops at the Bronte GO Station and the Halton Regional Centre. For more information, you may visit the Oakville Children’s Festival page.
