Repair Peeling or Chipping Paint
No matter how meticulously your home’s paint job has been done in the past, it is normal for it to show signs of wear and tear after a few years.
Flaking or chipping paint can make your home look like it is in worse shape than it really is. More so, damaged paint can expose parts of your home to the elements and that means more problems down the road. Repair peeling or chipping paint by preparing the surface to be repainted well to ensure your new paint will last.
Repairing peeling or chipping paint also gives you an opportunity to freshen up your home’s entire look. It is also a very affordable home improvement move to get your home sale-ready.
Take Care of Your Water Heater
Do you know that you have to flush out your water heater once a year? That isn’t a frequency written in stone though, as you can do it as infrequently as just every few years; however, once a year would be better to extend the life of your heater and ensure it remains in tip top shape.
There is usually no need to hire a professional to flush out your water heater. You can check your owner’s manual or search for tutorials on YouTube. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself, there are plenty of local plumbers that can do this for you.
Replacing Your HVAC Filter Frequently
Replacing the filter for your HVAC unit needs to be done regularly, with experts citing that it should be done every 6 weeks to every 3 months. Your filter’s replacement schedule is dependent on the type of furnace so it is best to check on this to be on the safe side.
Repair Caulk Around Windows
Re-caulking is cheap and easy and needs to be done to save energy for your home’s cooling and heating. Dry caulk becomes hard and can chip away, making your window an entry point for water and exit point for energy.
You can easily re-caulk by cleaning out the old caulk with a scraper and reapplying a fresh one over it. A clear day would be the best time to re-caulk.
Get Fresh Batteries for Your Smoke Detector
In Ontario, communities usually have a yearly or bi-annual reminder of when people should replace the batteries in their smoke detectors. Experts suggest that the best time to do this would be in the spring and in the fall. You can replace them whenever you want but just do so regularly to make sure they are working. Testing out your smoke alarm at least once every 4 to 8 weeks is a must. They won’t be of any use if they are defective or can’t detect smoke when needed.
