Clouds make such quiet neighbours.
A new breed of urban condo dweller is among us – the stratospherian. No one is all that sure which came first: the people that want to live high up where it’s nice and quiet or the developer that figured someone eventually would want to pay that much for a luxury penthouse. If you crave lofty panoramic views and silence even in the noisiest concrete jungles, you may just be a stratospherian. Here we’re going to talk about how this new breed is upping condo prices across the board and where you fit in this brave new condo hierarchy.
The Higher You Climb
It’s well known that the higher you climb the more you pay. Some buildings across the Greater Toronto Area have even gone so far to numbering Penthouses (P1, P2, P3). When it comes to penthouse living, it’s all about light, height and those scenic views that aren’t blocked out by the building beside you. But the higher you climb, the better the view, the more you’re going to end up paying as a penthouse premium.
Oakville luxury real estate has luxury penthouses, but we’re not sure if many would qualify in the stratospherian category!
Many luxury buyers have complained about the new trend of multiple penthouses in a single building, but it makes sense for developers – the more penthouses leading up to the apex of a building, the more they’re able to profit from a building. Adding a premium of 10% onto each floor as you climb ever skyward, they can make out like bandits. It all comes down to how much you’re willing to invest in your vertical lifestyle.
If you buy a home in downtown Toronto for example, you’re going to have to hear traffic all day long if you’re on the lower floors. If you’ve been into the city centre recently you know what we’re talking about! But if you have to be in the thick of it but want that ultimate amenity – peace and quiet – you’re usually willing to pay just about anything to keep it. How much would you pay?
Perks of Living at the Peak
But it’s not just about the views – people are addicted to living on the upper floors because of the scarcity. Not everyone can live at the top, and that’s what makes it so appealing. 3 or 4 terraces, 12 foot ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and a view that makes you feel like you live on a jet full time are just a few of the perks you get from living at the peak. Some developers are going as far as putting glass railings on terraces, so people don’t end up with an obstructed view.
