Known as the part of Town which is older than Oakville itself, Bronte is certainly more than just a neighbourhood with stunning lakeshore properties and beautiful luxury homes. It also has a rich history and is one of the hubs which features the best dining experience in Oakville. Come along and let’s get to know what makes Bronte really special.
Located in the west end of Oakville, the community of Bronte is a hub like no other. From its rich history and beginnings, to its natural attractions such as the Twelve Mile Creek and the harbor, to its cultural offerings, Bronte houses some of the most sought-after real-estate this side of Canada and below are the reasons why.
When the community started as a small fishing village at the mouth of the Twelve Mile Creek (informally known as Bronte Creek) in 1834, little did people back then knew how successful their new settlement would be. They named the community after the Duke of Bronte, the British Naval hero Horatio Nelson who was made a duke by King Ferdinand III of Sicily. The name Bronte was coined from the original Greek word which means thunder - no wonder the community has such a high profile, especially with the addition of the Bronte Harbour in 1856.
Bronte stretches far and wide, from Lake Ontario in its southern part to the Queen Elizabeth Way, and from Burloak Drive in its western part to Fourth Line. It also features the annual Waterfront Festival host Coronation Park, a sprawling area with lots of parking space, a large playground, and field room. Some of the best parts are the huge outdoor stage, fun booths and kiosks, plus the exciting carnival rides during the Waterfront festival.
The neighbourhood of Bronte has plenty of other things to offer besides entertainment and stunning lakeshore views. The community is very accessible by both rail and bus; making it perfect for those commuting to Toronto or other nearby business and work hubs. Aside from that, notable schools such as St. Dominic and St. Joseph, Oakville Christian School, several public elementary schools, and the Thomas A. Blakelock high school makes the community well suited for young families as well.
