No one wants buyer’s remorse, but how do you avoid it? Even if you’re shopping for luxury real estate or luxury homes for sale, something could go wrong. The only way you’re going to be able to avoid a mistake is to really understand what you’re buying before you buy it. From understanding the difference between wanting to win and wanting to buy to hiring a home inspector, everything that you need to know to buy a home without getting stuck with a lemon. Let’s get started and see how you can avoid buyer’s remorse!
Do You Want it or Do You Want to Win it?
Do you really want to buy this luxury home for sale, or do you just want to win the bidding? You don’t want to get so emotionally overinvolved in a purchase when, in the end, it’s not the home you actually wanted. It needs to be the home that you’ve been dreaming of, or at least something close to it. Don’t let phantom bids paint you into a corner where you’re stuck with an ugly house that doesn’t match up with what you need.
Make a list of the stuff you want in a home before you start shopping – and stick to it! This way you’ll know where you stand and you’ll have to stick to it.
How Many Times Have You Seen It?
Love at first sight is great for romance movies, not so great for a house. You can fall in love with it right away, but the last thing you want to do is sign those mortgage papers on the spot. You need to know that when you buy a house you’re getting what you think you’re getting. Multiple visits to “the one” are necessary so you know if it’s beer goggle or true love.
Did You Walk Through All the Rooms or Just Some?
You’ll need to make sure that you’ve gone through every room in the house! You’ll want to check windows, stairs, doors, floors, everything – don’t be afraid to ask for floor plans for luxury real estate before you buy, just in case there are secret rooms you need to know about.
Check Out Photos
Don’t just trust your gut with a home visit, check out lots of pictures too. Pictures can show you things you’re just not seeing with the naked eye – and it never hurts to have something in front of you that you can check day and night whenever you need to. If they have inferior photos, it’s something to think about – if they skimped on their luxury realtor’s services what else did they skimp on?
Does This Home Meet Your Checklist?
Again, once you’ve gone through all the other step, look at your checklist. Does this home really match up with everything you need? Right yard or terrace, right amount of bedrooms, is it close to the things that matter to you? Don’t bend on the things that matter and you’ll have the luxury home for sale that’s right for you.
