While many cities have children’s choirs, the Oakville Children’s Choir is in a class of its own. The Oakville Children’s Choir recently hosted an event to honour the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s gift to the OCC of $117,000.
The grant will be used over the next two years to fund two different choir groups: A Few Good Men (male choir for ages 7 to 25) and Little Notes (a prep choir for ages 3-4). It’s expected that the grant will encourage mentoring, arts and culture in Oakville.
Award Winning Choir Receives Recognition
The OCC’s senior and chamber choirs brought home gold medals last year from the World Choir Games in Cincinnati; winning the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s grant is just icing on the cake. The choir is expected to participate in the 2014 World Choir Games in Latvia later this year.
The senior choir was also one of two Canadian choirs chosen to represent Canada on Scotiabank’s “Bright Future” DVD, an international compilation.
During the presentation recognizing the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s gift to Oakville Children’s Choir, MPP Kevin Flynn said that while many cities have choirs, “… they do not all have an Oakville Children’s Choir. This is a world class children’s choir.
