With the cold weather looming around the corner, nature entertains us with the colourful display of fall leaves, and we’re sure you know what this means – plenty of loose fall leaves to take care of! So here is Oakville’s fall loose leaf collection dates for this year which falls on October 14 to November 28, 2014.
What Oakvillians Need to Know
Loose leaf collection in Oakville is designated by zones or by area. To know which of the dates in this article pertain to your area, you have to determine in which zone your home’s address falls in. A detailed map in the town’s website can help you with this.
As for the leaves to be collected, residents have to ensure that the loose leaves are placed on the shoulder or on the boulevard and not in ditches or catch basins in front of the home. The leaves have to be free of rubbish and foreign matter like other types of debris. To ensure that the loose leaves will be collected, they have to be left out no later than 7am on the scheduled date of collection. Moreover, residents also have to ensure that they pile the loose leaves no earlier than 1 week or 7 days before the scheduled collection date. Leaves which are left out before or after the allowable collection time will not be collected and the homeowner will be the one responsible to dispose of them. The same applies if the leaves are contaminated with foreign matter such as rubbish and other debris.
Special Notes for Halton Residents
For Halton residents, yard waste and bagged loose leaves will be collected on the same day as regular garbage is picked up. As before, Halton residents are instructed to only use open reusable rigid containers which are labeled yard waste or to use paper yard waste bags. Those who place their yard waste and loose leaves on plastic bags, GreenCarts, Blue Boxes and cardboard boxes will not be collected. More so, Halton residents are urged to visit the Halton Region waste management page as the region’s waste collection schedule is different from Oakville’s loose leaf collection schedule. A special date is set aside for collection of hazardous materials and electronic waste on October 25.
