Or a tiny move – it’s spring and it’s time to get ready to move into your new home. Here we’re going to talk about getting organized, cleaning up and learning when it’s time to let things go. A few labels and wrapped delicates can go a long way, so let’s get started.
Clean and Toss Stuff Out
The last thing you want to do is try and bring stuff you don’t want with you when you move. If it’s stuff you know you don’t want, don’t waste time, money and energy packing it into boxes. Throw things away, take just what you really want and need for your new home.
If you don’t want to throw things out, give them away! Use Kijiji, Craigslist, donate furnishings and other things to worthwhile charities like the Habitat for Humanity Restore or another charity of your choice. If those winter clothes have been sitting at the back of your closet for four winters, it might be time to let them go.
Label All the Things!
You know that weird guy at the office that’s always labeling things, even the door handle to the office fridge? While that might be overkill when you’re at the office, you can never label too much stuff when you’re moving. Label individual boxes, even if you’re putting them in other boxes. Label your delicates, label clothing boxes, label everything with a room name so if you’re using professional movers they know what’s supposed to go where.
Don’t Be Afraid to Hire Moving Experts
There’s an old Amish saying – “If you have the time, you don’t have the money; if you have the money you won’t have the time.” When it comes to moving your home, you’re either going to have time to move or money to move; there’s nothing wrong with hiring moving experts to make sure that your things get where they’re going.
Keep Some Boxes Back
You never know what you’ll find right before you leave your old home – maybe your kids didn’t pack anything up, maybe you forgot the drawer with the cutlery. You’ll want to keep a few boxes back so you can ship them to your new home and know that they’re going to reach their destination. If you’re driving, just pop them in the car and get ready to go.
Moving can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be – with a little preparation and planning you’ll be able to have a quick move. As soon as you find the right Oakville real estate for you, you’ll want to start packing up. Pack things in order of usefulness – with the least useful things going into the boxes first.
