Once you’ve bought or sold real estate, you’re going to have to move! Some of us opt to move our own things, but movers can be a great choice too. Here we’re going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of hiring professional movers for your move. Like everything else in life, movers aren’t for every situation, so make sure they’re right for yours before you hire them!
Why Would You Want to Hire Movers?
This seems like a no brainer, but if you’ve moved before you know how much preparation has to go into a move. You’ll need to collect boxes, pack things up, dealing with getting them on a truck (if you can find a truck at all) and taking charge of any damage or lost items. This is time intensive process and a lot of us just don’t have the time to deal with moving ourselves. This is when you want to hire movers instead of doing it yourself; but how do you find a moving company that’s reputable?
Moving by Yourself is Expensive
Moving on your own is expensive! If you’ve moved before you know that you can easily spend a couple of hundred just for the truck rental (if you can find one!) and all of the packing materials, hand trucks and other things that go along with moving. Many truck rental companies will have these things available but they’ll be sure to charge you a premium for them. If you don’t want to spend every weekend for six weeks packing up your house and trying to keep the important things from going into boxes until the last second, consider hiring a mover.
Finding a Good Mover
Finding a good mover take work, but you’re going to want to make sure that you interview a few different companies before you settle on one. Make sure that they are registered with the Better Business Bureau and that they give you a WRITTEN estimate. This way you’ll be able to make sure that you get exactly what they say they’re offering you. When dealing with movers, anything less than a written estimate is moot. You’ll also want to know what they need from you in terms of packing and preparation; some movers may not be able to pack your things for your and only provide transport from one house to another, while others will come into your house and neatly organize and pack all of your belongings.
If you’ve bought or sold a home, you’re going to have to move. It’s a fact of life; if you don’t want your family and friends to pull a phone shuffle on you to get out of helping you move, just hire professionals. They’ll be able to get you moved in an afternoon, and you’ll be able to move money, personal documents and family photos on your own without having to worry about problems. Always remember that most moving companies won’t move house plants and pets so make arrangements for these on your own.
