There are a lot of things in play when we’re buying or selling a home – and if you really want to make sure you’re investing in the right Oakville luxury real estate, you need to have a good grasp on the psychology of house hunting. From the 70%+ of Canadians that are worried about buying a home only to find something wrong with it later, to the little voice in the back of our heads that tells us we could always find something better, here we’re going to tackle all the biggies that can make house hunting a real nightmare.

Average Buyer Takes 5 Months to Shop

The average Canadian home buyer takes about 5 months to find the right home, according to a recent BoM (Bank of Montreal) study. This means that a Canadian buyer has to go through about a dozen homes to find the one that’s right for them, though many admit that they find “the one” early on, but kept searching just to make sure. This might be one of those situations where most of us should probably trust our gut (and our home inspector) when shopping for luxury real estate and homes for sale in general.

Most Know “The One” When They See It

The study further claims that 80% of respondents knew they found the right house when they walked inside, but about 70% of people were willing to settle for homes that may not be perfect for them. It’s good to be flexible when shopping for homes for sale, but you need to know that the home you’re buying is the one that’s right for you. If you’re trying to find a home that fits all your needs and most of your wants, let us go to work for you!

Why Are Buyers Buying Homes?

It’s important to understand why buyers buy – about half of those that responded believed that real estate was a good investment for their futures, while about 40% believed that it was the best time to buy (easy access to financing, prices stabilizing, etc). Of those polled, a quarter of buyers just wanted to move to a nicer, better neighbourhood and another 20% wanted to buy a new home because they wanted to grow their families.

Buyer’s Remorse a Big Worry

Over half of Canadians polled were worried about finding a major problem with homes for sale down the road that they would have to pay for – which just goes to show you that a home inspection can save you a lot of pain and suffering (not to mention money) down the road. Half of those that responded weren’t too worried about home values taking a tumble as long as they had a nice home and liked their neighbourhoods; it just goes to show that people are willing to buy a great house no matter what.
