When you’re searching for the right Oakville home for sale, you need to know what type of home you like! Most of us just think about a home as a square house with one or two storeys, but there are so many more options than that. Here we’re going to go over what kinds of Oakville real estate there is and how you can find the one that’s right for you. With a dizzying array of options it can be difficult; when you’re ready to start looking for your home let us help!

Detached Family Homes

Detached family homes are just what they say they are; homes built for a single family. The family can be a huge one (20 rooms could be a single family home technically), or it can be small. The point is that it is completely detached from another home (like an apartment or stacked townhouses) and sits on its own lot. This gives the homeowners a greater degree of privacy than they would have otherwise; this is by far one of the more popular choices for people who are looking to buy a home.

Semi-Detached Homes

Semi-Detached houses can be many things, but are often one large house that was split into two separates or two homes that were built with an adjoining wall. You’ll share one common wall (your lounge and the neighbours lounge adjoin along the same wall, for example) but not two. If you have someone on each side of you, it’s more of a row house or a town house. These types of homes are a great choice if you want to save on maintenance, but if you want more privacy you may want to go with a single family or detached home like above.

Condos, Apartments and Duplexes

Condos, Lofts and Apartments

A condo and an apartment virtually have no structural differences; condos are usually built with better materials and you can buy a condo (most places only let out apartments as opposed to selling them). A condo just means you own the unit, so don’t get tripped up. In British Columbia they’re known as strata; but you won’t just find these high up in the air overlooking Lake Ontario. Condos can be detached houses, row houses and town houses, they can be virtually anywhere since it’s just a form of ownership. Contact us to learn more about condos for sale in Oakville!

Duplexes can be two units stacked on top of the other, or they can sit next to each other. There are many kinds of duplexes; Carriage and Link homes are connected to other homes via garages while stacked Townhouses will have one unit above and below. The traditional duplex will be a row house or townhouse that will have adjoining common walls. These can be sold as individual units or in a group; people often buy a duplex to live in one unit and rent the other one out.
